In a fit of energy I got around to putting proper and better shoulder straps on my pack basket made last summer. The pack is willow and the leather work is approximately 10 oz. Hermann Oak harness leather.
Once the leather ages a bit they will be beautiful and rustic-looking.
Very nice work on both counts! A little trail sweat and dirt with have it looking perfect.
Reblogged this on Brittius.
Very super work!!! Why don’t you use natural leather grease or olive oil and sun exposure ?
I use home made dubbin. This is an old recipe made from beeswax (from a friend’s bees) and pure neatsfoot oil. I used to use more olive oil but I have been led to believe it may break down leather over time.
Fine work, George!
Thanks. I’m planning to put it to use this summer.
How much does the basket weigh, and with the leather strapping?
Do you have an estimate as to volume and carry capacity yet?
Hope it worked and keeps working for years to come
